What is WIC?

WIC is a nutrition education and food supplemental program that provides:

  •  Healthy foods
  •  Health care referrals
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Eating tips for you and your child
  • Nutrition education

WIC mothers are strongly encouraged to breastfeed their infants. All WIC staff are trained to promote and provide breastfeeding support.

Breastfeeding support offered at WIC:

  • Basic breastfeeding information and referrals
  • Help with breastfeeding after delivery
  • Breastfeeding aids as needed, such as pumps, breast shells and etc.

Who can receive WIC?

  • Pregnant women
  • Breastfeeding women who have had a baby in the last 12 months
  • Women who have had a baby in the last 6 months
  • Infants
  • Children up to 5 years of age

Applicants must meet income guidelines, be a resident of North Carolina, provide proof of identification, and complete a nutrition assessment by a Nutritionist.
