Day Reporting Center

Day Reporting Center

The Day Reporting Center (DRC) is an adult community corrections program which provides offender supervision, intervention treatment services and corrective sanctions to non-violent offenders. The blue print for the DRC was enacted by the North Carolina General Assembly under the Structured Sentencing Guidelines in 1993 and modified October 1, 1994 . As delegated by the State-County Criminal Justice Partnership Act (G.S. 143B-273) the DRC is a collaborative effort of the North Carolina Department of Correction, the Criminal Justice Partnership Program and the Halifax County Criminal Justice Partnership Advisory Board.

The DRC is a structured adult, non-residential, intermediate punishment program for non-violent offenders. The primary target population are those offenders that are sentenced in the G, H and I category range on the North Carolina Structured Sentencing Grid. Offenders referred to the DRC must receive an intermediate punishment sentence, which is a community corrections sentence with the stipulation of supervised probation. The DRC program participation is for a maximum of six (6) months, followed by two (2) months of aftercare follow-up. Interventive (treatment) services that are facilitated via the DRC include: substance abuse outpatient counseling; G.E.D./A.B.E. academic course work; employment search assistance; human resource development (HRD) classes; vocational/work adjustment placements; Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI); NA/AA; mentoring alliances; and other services as the individual needs of the client (offender population) dictates. Primary referrals to the DRC are technical probation violators that are in need of any of the following modalities: substance abuse treatment, ABE/GED instruction, CBI, NA/AA, and employment search assistance. Referrals are currently received via Halifax Superior Court, Halifax General District Court and Judicial District 6A Probation and Parole Officers (modified court orders).
