Work Program
Community Service Work is work that is performed by youth court offenders at non-profit organizations as a means of reparation to the community for their misdeeds. The purpose is to teach the child accountability and responsibility for his/her actions.
The program is mandated by General Statue 7a-649 (4) which authorizes the Juvenile Court Judge to impose community service work upon adjudicated delinquents, and by the court Intake as a diversion method.
Worksites consist of non-profit organizations such as schools, and local government agencies. Youth do not receive money for their work, nor will the worksite.
Results of the program include reduction in the number of training school commitments, development of appropriate public behavior, and interpersonal skills, increased community involvement, as well as support and confidence in the Juvenile Justice System.
